Taylor is not a great book by any means. Schroeder seems like it should be a good book but is actually garbage. Shankar is the far superior quantum textbook to Griffith's treatment. I have used all these books in my time as an undergraduate and none of them were very good. Griffiths E&M is probably the only good book in the bunch. If you need a book that has been checked out, we will put you on a list to check out said book next, after the previous patron's two week loan period is up. Many of our books are also available at the Marriott Library, if you need the book before the previous patron's two week loan period is up. For a general view in physics you could check out the Feynmann lectures on physics. In my personal opinion, Feynmann is the most important physicist of the second half of 20th century, and he was also an extraordinary profesor, so these books are.

Chicago undergraduate mathematics bibliography Somehow I became the canonical undergraduate source for bibliographical references, so I thought I would leave a list behind before I graduated. I list the books I have found useful in my wanderings through mathematics (in a few cases, those I found especially un useful), and give short.
Pages in category "Physics books" The following pages are in this category, out of total. This list may not reflect recent changes (). (Original post by Antimatter) For first year, I can recommend 'Mathematical Techniques' by Jordan and Smith, then Kreyszig's 'Advanced Engineering Mathematics' - but really I'd say check in your uni library for a style you like before splashing any cash - a lot of people like Mary Boas, but I hate her style and find it almost impossible to read.
The following list shows the books currently used as primary sources in the first year of the Physics Honour course. (Second-hand copies can sometimes be obtained from Oxford booksellers.) In addition to its normal short-term loan and reference role, the College Library keeps multiple copies of.

Overall, I enjoy reading this book. Energy physics is a relatively new branch in physics. I believe no one knows exactly what we should teach to energy physics students. This book definitely sets the standard for energy physics textbooks.

Chicago Undergraduate Physics Bibliography. Well, here's a list of books I've come across in my wanderings through Crerar Library.
I've tried to indicate roughly what the book covers and at what level, and I've tried to point out where certain books are dated or otherwise pathological.
This is the one physics book that every future. Older editions often have different problems, or they are renumbered in such a way that makes finding problem difficult or impossible.
For subject matter such as introductory physics, both mechanics and e&m, these obviously haven't changed much in 10, 20, even 50 years. So older editions of the books are just fine for self study. However, the topic mostly focused on physics books. Here, I want to focus on math books.
In particular, math books needed for undergraduate level physics (and maybe first year graduate school as well) Browsing through this forum and elsewhere, I cleaned up my original math section and this is what I've gathered so far. This is a meta-question that collects all those links together.

Designed as a supplement for any of the core advanced undergraduate and graduate physics courses, Mathematica for Physics chooses the canonical problems from the physics curriculum, and solves these problems using Mathematica. This book takes the reader beyond the "textbook" solutions by challenging the student to cross check the results using the wide variety of Mathematica's analytical.
